Porotech 2024 Year in Review: MicroLED Technology Breakthroughs, Mass Production on the Horizon for 2025

2024 has been a groundbreaking year for Porotech. As a leading innovator in display technology, Porotech, alongside its partners, has built an entirely new MicroLED ecosystem and production base to meet diverse customer needs. The company also received numerous international awards, further solidifying its leadership position in the industry.

Taiwan-Based Strategy, Global Collaboration, and a Complete Ecosystem

Porotech partnered with Foxconn, PSMC and GIS to establish the world’s first 8-inch MicroLED mass production facility this year. This collaboration marks a new era in display technology and semiconductor manufacturing. The facility is expected to launch in July 2025, with a targeted monthly capacity of 5 million units of 0.1-inch microdisplays. This will support the global adoption of MicroLED technology and significantly reduce the time required for new technologies to transition from development to market application.

The production line plan fully leverages Taiwan’s strengths in the semiconductor industry, achieving precise division of labour and efficient operations. Porotech’s UK headquarters focuses on material design, providing critical Epitaxy materials; Tainan is responsible for 8-inch epitaxial wafer production, Zhunan handles the 8-inch pixel process, while Taichung oversees backend wafer processing and module assembly. This highly coordinated industrial chain strengthens Taiwan’s core role in MicroLED technology production and enhances its strategic value in the global tech arena.

Porotech also actively integrates into the international cooperation network, combining global resources and market demands. The company has created a complete ecosystem with its strategic partners that spans manufacturing, packaging, optical modules, and systems integration. This lays a solid foundation for large-scale applications in the future, especially in areas like smart wearables, AR glasses, micro-projectors, and high-resolution displays, where MicroLED technology will play a key role.

Driving Innovation Through Business Applications and Technology

Leveraging its leading edge in material innovation and technology, Porotech successfully attracted funding and technical support from Foxconn and GIS. This collaboration has significantly boosted the company’s competitiveness in material design, pixel processing, and module integration. Porotech has proactively positioned itself to meet diverse customer needs, accelerating technological applications across smart wearables, automotive electronics, and large displays, pushing MicroLED technology from the lab to mass commercial production, and helping its partners gain an early advantage in emerging markets.

At the same time, Porotech continues to refine its technology, achieving significant milestones internationally. At the SPIE conference earlier this year, Porotech’s Dynamic Pixel Tuning® (DPT®) technology won the 16th Annual Prism Award in the AR/VR/MR category. At SID Display Week 2024, Porotech’s world-first MicroLED micro-projector received high praise from professionals, winning the “Best MicroLED-Based Technology.”

Outlook for 2025

In 2025, Porotech will continue to focus on material innovation and technological breakthroughs, enhancing international collaboration and regional resource integration to further expand the market value and industrial impact of Micro LED technology in augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI). Together, we aim to drive substantial growth in the global technology industry.
