Porotech’s 2022 in Review
2022 has been an incredible year for Porotech. This year our team has grown by 150%, we’ve multiplied our revenue many times over, won endorsements from many of our peers in science and engineering, and continued to make world-first technological breakthroughs.
With 2023 just around the corner, we want to celebrate what we’ve accomplished over the past 12 months.
DPT®: A fundamental breakthrough
This year has been pivotal for Porotech from an engineering perspective, with our team developing DynamicPixelTuning® (DPT®) technology: a microLED covering the entire visible spectrum. DPT sees us building atop earlier breakthroughs in material science to build a platform that can revolutionise displays.
Previously, using our proprietary material PoroGaN®, we’d proved it was possible to develop full-colour microLED displays using just one material by developing the world’s first native red display based on indium gallium nitride (InGaN). Throughout this year, our team has made breakthrough after breakthrough to build on this to produce DPT. DPT represents a ‘holy grail’ of display technology, with a single DPT microLED doing the work that would previously fall on four RGB sub-pixels. Because of this, DPT is set to drastically improve pixel density, ease manufacture, and slash the power consumption of displays.
The development of DPT is where much of our engineering effort went in 2022, with the team conducting a first public demo in May at Display Week.
Funding and growth
This year kicked off with us announcing a $20 million Series A investment to accelerate our expansion and enable mass production of PoroGaN microLEDs. This investment has launched a significant wave of expansion, both in terms of headcount and offices.
Along with new offices in the UK, 2022 has also seen us move to establish offices in Taiwan and Arizona. These new global locations are of major strategic importance, enabling Porotech’s team to work on the ground with manufacturers and supply chain partners in implementing and integrating DPT microLEDs into displays.
Awards and recognition
Along with the growth milestones and tech breakthroughs, 2022 also saw Porotech appear on the radars of the players and organisations around the worldwide display industry.
This year has seen our tech and team be shortlisted for and win competitive industry awards, including best prototype at Display Week innovation zone. Our latest award was from the Institute of Physics (IOP), with Porotech winning the Business Start-Up Award – a strong vote of confidence in our tech and approach from the broader physics and engineering community.
2023 and beyond
2022 has been a record year for our team and Porotech has laid a robust foundation for our continued growth in 2023, building on the challenges we’ve solved with the development of DPT and our strong industry partnerships.
In the coming year, we want to attract some of the world’s best engineers and technicians, deepen our relationships, and add value for prospective and existing supply chain partners.
